Notes...

General

  • Inevitably, there are some mistakes, not all data have been entered consistently and the addition of punctuation/comments calls for some additional LOD work. OpenRefine is the perfect tool to work with messy data and its facets are informative - they may reveal possible inconsistencies and raise questions about the data.
  • What to do with question marks?
    • Probably add a confidence level as an qualifier to the property?

Schema

  • All of the original CSV data will be kept intact (as strings) along with the Monasticon Hibernicum identifier as qualifiers of that resource. This makes it possible to easily check against the original resource.

  • P.S. Wikidata is not as helpful for reconciliation because of its mostly recentist perspective.
Special cases

Many special cases require manual adjustments or a clearer perspective on what to with them.

  • identifications may be uncertain, perhaps calling for a confidence property.
    • anything with "?"
  • There are several dioceses with 'detached' status
    • Ossory (detached)
    • Tuam (detached - within Clonfert
    • Cashel (det.)
    • "Ardagh (detached)" and "Ardagh (disj)" ? Maybe they refer to the diocese extending to Tuam (as opposed to Armagh/Leinster). If so, some items in prov. Tuam simply "Ardagh", without a similar distinction.
  • dioceses may change
    • Lismore (formerly Ardmore)
  • multiple dioceses, perhaps referring to multiple possibilities
    • Limerick/Emly?
    • Down? Dromore?
    • Kildare; Glendalough?
    • Dromore?/Down?
  • misspellings
    • Killlaloe (3 x l)
    • Kilalla (for Killala)
  • blank / no value at all
    • detected 444 items without a value for "diocese"
